Hi.  I'm new to Octave, myself, so I may not know of what I speak, but I 
think that "args" is a function that James defined:


% test function to echo string arguments

  printf ("arg %d = %s\n", i, argv (i));

So I think you need to enter that in first before you try "args 
('hello')".
