I bought my system 2nd hand, & it's very likely the previous owner
"installed a newer gnuplot" as you suggest.  He is no octave user, so
probably did not reconfigure octave.  Is it straightforward for me to
reconfigure octave?  I'm a little afraid that I'll screw up & have
nothing...
