Octave does run under Mac OS X (including 10.1, but not tested on 10.1.1). If you want to install it "by hand" there are instructions at http://homepage.mac.com/persquare

Ah. last time I looked there is said that it didn't work yet on 10.1.

Otherwise you might want to use fink (an automated package manager for OSX) to install it. Fink has octave 2.1.35

See fink.sourceforge.net for more info. (Octave is in the unstable branch, check the FAQ and the mailing lists for more info.)

I've checked those resources, but
-- "There were no matches for octave found on the website" while the messages with octave in the title are staring me in the face
-- there are rather a lot of msgs.

I think I could use another hint.

[localhost:~/Projects/supernova] victorle% fink install octave-forge
sudo /sw/bin/fink install octave-forge
