make check gives mostly FAIL

Subject: make check gives mostly FAIL

     I've compiled ovtave-2.0.4 un debian GNU/Linux with the f2c option and 
     -O CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS, no shared libraries, no lite-kernel. When I 
     give a make check I get mostly failures, more then 500. Is there 
     somthing I am missing with dajegnu (I've never used it before) or is 
     my octave installation worthless?
