I've re-reported the bug as https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?57981.
And have fixed the problem in git:
https://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/nano.git/commit/?id=cbbfebbc
The fix will appear in nano-4.9, in about two weeks.
