grub> ls
(hd0) (hd0,msdos7) (hd0,msdos6) (hd0,msdos5) (hd0,msdos1) (fd0)

The machine has only 128 MiB and the Debian installer declines to work.
I can add memory and install Deb Wheezy ... although in principle Grub
should be able to function without Linux.

BootManager a preferred alternative.

Installation of Grub was convenient when the hdd was being partitioned
on the Debian system; not essential.

This machine also doesn't shutdown cleanly and I wonder whether it has
an anomalous behaviour of BIOS or hardware. Beyond my knowledge
really.

Thanks for the interest, ... Peter E.
