New to g++ and linux - Class path problem? |

I am new to linux and g++. I have just installed linux on one of my PCs
with a red hat distribution.
I am doing some C++ programming on this machine, and I can compile my source
just fine, and g++ creates an a.out file.
I am in the directory that contains the a.out file, and I type a.out. I get
an error message that says command cannot be found.
Is this a path environment problem? Is there a command I can use on the
command line to use the current path, or is there a settings file where I
can define my class paths?
Thanks in advance for the help!
