A good start.  Does it do the job?

I think Gnus veterans would tell you to use posting styles:

  (info "(gnus) Posting Styles")

to configure settings on a per account basis instead of changing global
variables back and forth - they are made for exactly this task.  Maybe
you want to give it a try - would be a bit cleaner.
