^ in the beginning of a regexp means the beginning of a line.

(search-forward-regexp "^aaa") ; works


(search-forward-regexp "^aaa") ; DNC


(search-forward-regexp "^a^aa") ; works


(search-forward-regexp "\\^aaa") ; works
