I do not confirm this. Try this: emacs -Q
+ 1 2 3 C-a C-space C-e M-(
it will leave the point at where the | character is in ``(+ 1 2 3|)''.
It could a version difference. I'm running
GNU Emacs 24.3.1 (i386-mingw-nt6.2.9200) of 2013-03-17 on MARVIN
