​Sorry, I think I was misinterpreted here​.  As I said,

I use `bash' as Emacs Shell.

​So it's ​rather "M-x shell".

Yes, I'm going to try that.  One thing I don't like about "--login" though
is that it forces `bash' to `cd' to '~'.
