I use libraries that make window switching easier, e.g.

| (require 'switch-window)


| (when (require 'window-numbering nil 'NOERROR)
|   (window-numbering-mode 1))

With them its just 

| C-x o <digit>


| M-<digit>

to switch to a another (numbered) window.
