What Emacs version are you using (`M-x emacs-version')?
`ls-lisp-dirs-first' is in library `ls-lisp.el', which is used by Emacs on MS
Windows. It sounds like library ls-lisp was not loaded. Are you on Windows?
Aside from the `S-mouse-2' context menu, for the moment, do you see a `Sort By'
submenu in menubar menu `Immediate' menu?
