Hi all!
I've got a small problem when logging into a remote Linux box via
ssh. My locale is utf-8 and the other box is koi8-r. Unfortunately,
the messages on the remote computer are all in Russian and I cannot
read them. Because I don't like the idea of re-setting my whole locale
environment just for this ssh business I am exploring if Emacs can
help out with that in a local buffer.
So far, I have tried M-x term, M-x eshell and M-x shell. Out of these
three, only M-x shell followed by C-x <RET> p koi8-r <RET> koi8-r
seems to do the job more or less acceptable. It would be nice to use
terminal emulator (M-x term) too as it allows running some programs,
which cannot be run in interactive shell. My attempts at using M-x
term have not been successful. I would appreciate your help if you
have any ideas.
