Actually, it's not the minibuffer, but rather the echo area, I
suspect.  Since shell-command does not read input, you cannot enter
the password. :-(

You can type 'sudo -v' in a terminal and use sudo in shell-command as
long as the ticket is valid.  That is what I do.
