Oh, seems I'm not using mule-ucs, only mule -- I mixed this up.

I have done this and it's not working.

I'm using Bistream vera Sans Mono, which has german quotation-marks.

I have font-backend which gives me subpixel-hinted glyphs for my
normal font, but the german quotation-marks are from some other
bitmap-fonts (see
<http://www.forwiss.uni-passau.de/~berberic/emacs-utf-8.png>).
