I added column numbers:

:;exec emacs -nw -q --no-site-file -l $0 -f : $* # -*- Emacs-Lisp -*-
;;; eless - make emacs be like less
(menu-bar-mode -1)
(setq inhibit-startup-message 1)
(column-number-mode 1)
(defun : ()
  (require 'view)
  (view-file (car command-line-args-left))
  (setq view-exit-action 'kill-emacs))
;;; end of eless

By renaming the function, I was able to get it to work under xemacs as 
well, using view-less instead of view since view-less.el has some extra 
keys set.
