Put the following into your ~/.Xdefaults emacs.font: -xos4-terminus-medium-r-normal--14-140-72-72-c-80-iso8859-15If you prefer a different font take a look at the fonts.dir file of the respective directory to find the exact font specifier for the resource line.
Or try to use the xfontsel tool which is kind of like a graphical front end to browsing the fonts.dir files by hand.
