If "awk regex is not powerful enough", then why not switch to another
language? No one language serves all needs, wants, and desires. If someone
has a large number of complaints about awk, perhaps the best "Help" would
be to switch to another language.
Wikipedia lists 29 different regular expression engine libraries used by a
number of the 700 total programming languages, so it ought to be easy to
choose a language with just the regex features one desires. Really! see:
