I like Fixedsys. I have this in my .emacs:

(setq default-frame-alist
      '(
        ; Other things removed
        (font .
"-raster-Fixedsys-normal-r-normal-normal-12-90-96-96-c-*-iso10646-1")))

The only thing I'm disappointed with is that the alternate IBM extended
character set (which includes the line-drawing characters and Greek letters)
isn't displayed "properly."

First, thanks to Stephen Leake, Eli Daniel & Jonathan Underwood for responding
to my last question "How to add a menu".

For many years ,with Xemacs, I have had a fixed width font that I have been
happy with. However with NTemacs I have been unable to settle on a font that is
both fixed width (so the indentations in C++ line up) and easy to read (so I
can spot my bugs &;-> )

I would welcome suggestions from others using emacs on NT/XP as to which fonts
are fixed width and which they find easy to read. My personal preference seems
to be towards sans serif fonts that are not too wide.

I know I can select a font using the dialogue obtained by selecting shift-mouse
1 but I prefer to set the font in my startup file like this
    (set-default-font "-*-MS Sans Serif-normal-r-*-*-12-90-*-*-p-80-*-ansi-")

However I do not know the mapping between the fonts in the GUI dialogue and the
format used in set-default-font. Additionally the command list-fontsets only
lists two fonts. Is there a way of getting the list of fonts displayed by the
GUI dialogue in the set-default-font format so I can set the font in the
startup file?

Regards,
Neil (J Mackie).
