I'm by no means a Mac guru, but I believe this hostname is just pulled from
your /etc/hosts file. Edit this file, and try changing the hostname there
by dropping the .local from the end. I believe that should fix this for
you.

Subject: String processing within cfengine files
Hi,
I need to set a nvram parameter with the non-qualified hostname on my
Macs. CFengine has a ${host} variable which shows up as
'hostname.local' on the Mac. I want to set the parameter to just
'hostname' Is there any way to shorten this string within a CFengine
file. I know I can do with with another script, but I would like to
avoid using external scripts all the time.
Thanks in advance,
cheers,
ski
