definition files assign string values or nested values to names, period.
There is no template substitution that happens there. Since the macro
markers are defined by the template itself, what is to say that "[=" and
"=]" are the right markers anyway? They are *template* *specific* markers.

No. (Without post-processing the generated code, but I'd suggest not going
