Dear Luis and Cedric,

Thanks for the prompt replies.

Luis is right about trainings and using other available attributes for narrowing down to disease.

What if we use Cedric's idea and use the "extra info" section of each disease to add its approximate synonyms? I think these approximate synonyms are also defined in ICD against every disease! (I may be totally wrong!).

Once the synonyms are there in "extra info" column, we can add this column to extended search spectrum for making it searchable.

Regards,
Khurram.

Thank you for the feedback !

Whenever we use coding standards we'll run into this. There are
trainings specifically for ICD10. The category, code, and most
importantly, de disease group, will definitely help narrowing the
search. Then daily practice will also help.

Creating a synonym structure, although possible, will be hard to
maintain, and to match against all the different coding systems (ICD9,
SNOMED, ... ).

We can extend the search spectrum to also look up for the disease code.
(similarly as what we did to find the medicament by its active
component)

All the best
