plans

Hey,

I'm happy! Guile-gnome seems to be in a more or less coherent state. I
finally hit Gregory's bug today (scm_unprotect_object called during GC.
Aborted), so I'm focused on it as I mentioned in my other mail.

After that get fixed, I think we should make a release, then update the
bindings to the latest library versions. This is not terribly difficult,
there are tools (h2def.py in package/, various in defs/tools/).

At that point I'll start working on updating the GStreamer bindings,
which I expect to be much more difficult, as they made an incompatible
break, and there are some new fundamental types.

My lingering question is about stability of the guile-gnome interfaces;
I guess that given that the module system will probably be different in
2 years, there's no harm in declaring stability with this release. That
means that we can't change any API, unless the API in question is
useless as it is.

The other thing that still bothers me are the generics. I'd like for it
to be possible to load the guile libraries without making generic
functions, without importing them into your namespace. Thoughts on this?

Well, that's the plan. Speak up if you have concerns or desires!

Andy.
