I do not think it works.

The patch is for GRUB Legacy but not for GRUB 2.

Not only I believed it, but also it was the truth. He hadn't sent the paper
for more than 2 years, and when he did, it was too late, since GRUB Legacy
was feature-frozen then.

No.

It's possible, but the code base is so different, and so somebody must make
effort. If you do, I would be happy to incorporate it.
