You may want to try troff2page ( It used 
to require Common Lisp, and perhaps because of that it never generated much of 
a user base. However, I've recently ported it to Lua, so it should be a much 
easier to install and use: Viz., (a) install Lua (5.3) using apt or brew if not 
already there, (b) put troff2page in your bin, and (c) start throwing documents 
at it.
I did try your example file, and it seems to do what is expected except for the 
.ta. I hadn't had occasion to use .ta rather than .TS/.TE, possibly because I 
don't generally embed tabs in my files, but it seems like a neat feature. I'll 
add it soon.
