With respect, Doug, I think you are missing the point.

The debate about whether ragged text is to be preferred to justified is  
for another time. The discussion here is about what is the better  
method (or best method) to be used for justifying text.

Many people prefer ragged text, and that is fine. But there are  
occasions when justifying text is necessary. For those cases let us  
find the method of doing so that is good/better/best.
