Tadziu HOffman has pointed out my mistake:
I was incorrectly using the VM macro --
To set the margins to zero it had to be
called with the -T key:
.VM -T 0u 0u
While the man page says: "No argument resets
the margin to zero or the default (7v 5v) if
-T was used.", neither '.VM' nor '.VM -T' does
set zero vertical margins and the only way to
do it seems to use the above call with -T and
with arguments.
