Yes, participating is better if possible, so try to find out if
there isn't a German translation team that perhaps has a
mailing list for discussion somewhere and then upload your work
there for criticism. You might also (especially) want to send
Karl Eichwalder <address@hidden> a mail to get some
pointers; in addition to being a fellow countryman of yours, he
is also the maintainer of The Free Translation Project under
the GNU auspices and thus he for one should be in a position to
give you some expert advice on getting started with this.
