Mode/Status not updated in shared mem mode

To whom it may concern.

I'm using gpsd on Linux Debian Bookworm in shared mem mode and I have 
the following issue:

When the GPS device (uBloks) get for whatever reason disconnected from 
USB, the Status/Mode fields are not (anymore) updated. Checking these 
fields still shows Mode=3D and Status >0, hence my SW "believes" that 
the GPS is still active, but it isn't.

How can I become aware that my GPS device "has died".
