okay, I think I killed gpsd.

address@hidden:~# systemctl --now mask gpsd.service gpsd.socket
Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/gpsd.service → /dev/null.
Created symlink /etc/systemd/system/gpsd.socket → /dev/null.

now when I run
address@hidden:~# systemctl list-units | grep gpsd
I get nothing.

so I restarted the whole thing.
though I don't know why I have to run this from my old /home/pi directory.
anyway, this time I get 2 x's on ntpq -p
sorry, I didn't give it time to settle down.

address@hidden:~# cd /home/pi
address@hidden:/home/pi# systemctl stop ntp
address@hidden:/home/pi# ./gpsd/gpsd /dev/gpsd0
address@hidden:/home/pi# ./ntpsec/build/main/ntpd/ntpd -g -c ntp.conf

I have to switch back to my other net to see how it's doing.
standby...
