[gpsd-users] How to get 10Hz Device Readings

I am following up on the 2013 thread that Andre and Gary had regarding getting 10 readings a second (http://lists.nongnu.org/archive/html/gpsd-users/2013-09/msg00037.html). I am also using the Adafruit Ultimate GPS (https://forums.adafruit.com/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=120162&p=600476#p600476).

We are trying to track our stock car at our local short track and want to get more readings than the default 1/second.  Ideally we would get 50/second but 10/second will do. Most races are determined by less than a 10th per lap.

The adafruit forum suggested that if I send:
$PMTK300,100,0,0,0,0*2C <cr><lf>
to the GPS breakout

Is there a method already in the GPSD Api that I can do that?  Is there a setOutputSpeed(int) method that I might have overlooked to increase the data frame rate?

Thanks in advance
