This isn't reproducing here. That means there is probably something
specific to your environment involved.

The most useful thing you could do would be to bisect from 3.9.
Check that the crash doesn't occur at 3.9, then pick the repo revision
halfway between 3.9 and 3.0 and test it.  If it succeeds reliably, you know 
the bad change is in the upper interval; if it flakes out, the lower one.

Try to repeat until the bad change is identified. "man git-bisect" will help.
