It is actually an old desktop pc, a pentium 4.
The linux kernel (3.2.0-rc7) says 8250/16550 and that's the driver it uses.

serial tells me:

I'm going to add an extra serial card (pci). I'm thinking that maybe the
baycom driver on ttyS0 might be conflicting.
