The resolution is not elegant, but I don't see any other option:

I have used this approach for some time in libidn, and it has worked
fine.
I have fixed this in gnutls git. There will likely be another release
before the real one, to test that everything works, but I don't expect
the real release to be delayed.
Btw, the debian stuff need to make sure that /usr/share/info/gnutls*.png
is included in the gnutls-doc package.
