Hi there. I'm quite enthralled with a friend of mine's install of this software that he gave me a login for, so I decided to wade in and give it a try. There's one difference between his install and mine. He's on linux, I'm putting this on a WinXP box.

The initial install? Piece of cake. Without password protection, I can run this exactly as intended (and I love it). Except that I'd really like to open it up to the outside world (such as being able to log in at work) without leaving it wide open. So I followed the instructions I found for how to create a .password file in the root mp3 directory. When started from a cmd prompt and I go to the URL to pull up gnump3d, the output in my console window indicates that it finds the password file, but no amount of

user:pass

combo in that file seems to work. The account I am logged into in WinXp is an administrative account and has read/write access to the directory in question. I've verified that the file is just .password and that windows has not stuck an ext on the end of it. (Created using both vim and the cmd prompt "edit" command)

The errors output to the console window when a login attempt is made:

Testing for directory: M:/mp3//
Password file found
Error : invalid login for user : testing123
Password file found
Error : invalid login for user : testing123
print() on closed filehandle GEN15 at c:\gnump3d2\bin\gnump3d2 line 1990.
print() on closed filehandle GEN15 at c:\gnump3d2\bin\gnump3d2 line 1990.

I've done everything I can think of, so I'm kind of throwing this out there after searching the mailing lists and not finding anything. Hopefully I'm not asking a totally stupid question. :p

any assistance appreciated. I had some initial thought it might be due to the double slash on the M:/mp3//, but I can't find anywhere in the config file that it has a / after mp3. All entries are just M:\mp3 in the files.
