While the original gripe was apparently mis-posted to gnu.misc.discuss,
FWIW, I rather like the lxny postings (even though I don't live in NYC).
They add a nice sort of community feel to a newsgroup mostly filled with
flamewars and mindless anti-GPL trolling.
If I read the freebsd users group, I think I'd feel the same way
(despite the organization's name, most of the lxny postings concern
general free software and software topics, not linux).
