 Mail Hosting with Postfix and Friends

 Postfix began its life as Wietse Venema's mailer many years ago as an
 alternative to the Sendmail application. Since then, it has become one of
 the most popular internet mail servers, and is shipped by default by the
 likes of Redhat, SuSE, Mandriva, and Apple's OS-X. The popularity of
 Postfix lies in its well thought out, robust and secure
 design. Additionally Postfix supports numerous features by being incredibly
 modular and has a set of very easy to understand and edit configuration
 files.
  
 With the right Postfix configuration and a mix of other mail software,
 Postfix can become the center-piece to a powerful mail solution for even
 the most demanding customers: ISP's and virtual hosters. Such demands can
 include:

 * Virtual Maildirs
 * Virtual user authentication
 * SSL/TLS per-domain support
 * Mail filtering (virus, spam, RBL, etc)
 * Sophisticated policy for mail filtering and transport
 * Site and per domain web based administration

 While the above sounds nice on paper, implementation of such can be quite
 difficult and at times horrifyingly confusing. The heart of the problem is
 a lack of documentation, and even then, correct documentation. Much of the
 documentation is sparse, conflicts with each other, and often covers very
 little ground. Sunny learned this the hard way. After wasting time whining
 about the situation, Sunny decided to do what all open source developers
 eventually do: scratch an itch.

 Please join Sunny this Tuesday as he discusses "Postfix and friends", his
 experiences with them, and the new documentation he has written. Such
 "friends" of Postfix include:

 * Courier-IMAP
 * Courier-SASL
 * MySQL
 * Amavisd-new
 * SpamAssassin
 * OpenSSL
 * Strace
 * and more

 About Sunny Dubey

 Sunny is an avid fan of Linux and Open Source. He is an officer of
 NYLUG, a management major at Polytechnic University, and a Linux
 consultant.
