Subject: This Wed. Gnubies -
Authentication with GPG - Ari Jort
Due to disasters with the user's disk and backup tape at Eskimo North
everything from June 3 through July 12th has been lost and email couldn't
be sent out until now. (This is the first major disaster I can recall in
all the years at Eskimo North.)
If you know of people who signed up to be on the Gnubies mailing list
during this time period, please tell them to resubmit their request to be
put on the mailing list, since their email addresses have been lost.

Please note security procedures for attending meetings at the IBM building
below.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
This month we are pleased to announce that we have Ari Jort back again by
popular demand. At the request of a number of you he will be
speaking on "Intro to Securing Your Email: Encryption and Authentication
with GPG." Ari is one of the few people able to present this subject so
as to both do it justice and make it comprehensible to Gnubies.
Ari is known to many of you from previous presentations over the years.
His clarity and flexibility have led to frequent requests to have him back
to speak again. He plans to give an introcudtion to the concepts involved
in this kind of cruptography and then to proceed to a practical
discussion show how to set up GPG using (at least) two very different mail
programs for users. Ari usually is excellent about questions during the
presentation. For more complex questions, that might not be of value to
everybody, you can join us afterwards to eat, drink or just chat.
Ari has been using Linux for eight years and until quite recently was a
software developer for The American Museum of Natural History and will be
starting a new job in two weeks. He is also the Vice President of the New
York Linux Users Group (NYLUG).
