I know of almost no trained programmers. For better or worse, pretty much
every programmer I know personally, good, bad, or indifferent, is
self-taught. Some of them have received additional formal training
*after* they learned how to program, but even that isn't really that
common.
I taught myself programming when I was eight. That's pretty common among
people of my generation, I believe, and particularly with people in the
generation after mine.
