Hi all,
I know of gNS and Trisquel being Debian/Ubuntu derivatives on this
list. are there any others? If so, this announcement may be of interest
to them.

Hi all,

I'd like to announce the Debian derivatives census[1] in order to get
more derivatives registered. I already announced it on the derivatives
list and got Emdebian, Grml, Maemo and gNewSense members to add pages.
Ubuntu I added myself and Canaima was added after I met someone from
there on IRC. I think we have reached the limit of derivative distros
closely following Debian and thus subscribed to the debian-derivatives
list. The number is kinda disappointing to me, so I would like to
announce the census more widely, maybe we can convince more derivatives
to join the list and IRC channel as a result. To this end, I have
written the following announcement to be sent to debian-announce,
debian-news or similar. Please review it, I would be glad to hear any
suggestions or additions! After the derivatives list has reviewed it I
will get a second review on debian-publicity and talk with the press
team to get it sent out. In addition to announcing the census formally,
I will try to get it onto LWN, slashdot and announce it more informally
on some derivative IRC channels, lists and other fora based on some of
the lists of derivatives at [5]. Once we have a more substantial amount
of derivatives registered I would like to start looking at the
information we have and asking the people listed as maintainers for
machine-readable versions so that information about our derivatives can
be more closely integrated with Debian stuff (UDD, PTS, DDPO, planet and
more).

Subject: Debian conducting census of derivatives (need a better title)

The Debian Project would like to invite representatives of distributions
derived from Debian to participate in a census[1] of Debian derivatives.
In addition we would like to invite representatives of distributions
derived from Debian to join the Debian derivatives[5] front desk[2].
In general Debian encourages members of derivative distributions to
contribute their ideas, patches, bug reports to Debian and to the
upstream developers of software included in Debian.

By participating in the census you will increase the visibility of your
derivative within Debian, provide Debian contributors with a contact
point and a set of information that will make it easier for them to
interact with your distribution and include. Representatives of
distributions derived from Ubuntu[6] are encouraged to get their
distribution added to the Ubuntu Derivative Team wiki page[7].

By participating in the Debian derivatives front desk you can support
other Debian derivatives, share your experience with other Debian
derivatives and with Debian contributors and benefit from the experience
of other Debian derivatives. Debian encourages representatives from all
derivatives to join the mailing list[3] and IRC channel[4].

Future plans for the Debian derivatives census include keeping track of
Debian derivatives, addition of more information useful to Debian
contributors, inclusion of machine-readable information and subsequent
integration of information about derivatives into Debian infrastructure.
