Make things simple---recommend GPL all the way.
If the goal is to make things simple, lets use the modified BSD
license. If the goal is to preserve freedom, we must evaluate
everything. For software, the GPL makes sense, for documentation, the
GFDL makes sense.
The rest of your message assumes that one will never make a printed
hardcopy of the documentation, something that you cannot know, and it
is more likley that if there is a good manual, then it will be
printed. And even so, the GFDL is a very good choice for normal
online documentation of all sorts, not only hardcopy manuals.
