Sorry, see subject - there's a ".arch-ids" directory. It's been answered
though; I suspect John meant to cc the list...:

Because there is one for every directory, and when it has '=id' that
means the directory is included in {arch}. So that when you move the
directory, it automatically moves with it. Because it is the inventory,
all the files move with it as well.
Basically, it means that whenever you move a directory, tla is
automatically updated to know where all the files moved to.
If you had it inside {arch}, then to rename a directory, you would have
to run a tla command for all the affected files.
Having a hidden .arch-ids works a lot nicer.
