Search the archives for more information, but roughly (IIRC):
"rbrowse" is new code, written with the intent of replacing "abrowse".
However, since abrowse still has some advantages to it (more options and
such), they're coexisting for the time being.
(As for the actual functional differences: rbrowse's regex support was,
to my knowledge, the impetus behind it getting started).
