right, the first step would be to check if there is a setting in the
phoen menus to use it as a modem

but you might be able to read and write the phonebook with obexftp
(and this might even be implemented in gnokii in future)
try:
obexftp --bluetooth 00:11:22:33:44:55 --get telecom/pb.vcf
and/or:
obexftp --bluetooth 00:11:22:33:44:55 --get telecom/pb/1.vcf
