What does /usr/share/aclocal/gettext.m4 say about AM_GNU_GETTEXT
macro? Here's the snipplet from mine:
dnl Usage: AM_GNU_GETTEXT([INTLSYMBOL], [NEEDSYMBOL], [INTLDIR]).
dnl INTLSYMBOL can be one of 'external', 'no-libtool', 'use-libtool'. The
dnl default (if it is not specified or empty) is 'no-libtool'.

Running locate gettext.m4 reveals that I do not have one. I installed gettext-devel to get the file, but nothing changes. Still:
checking whether to activate relocatable installation... no
./configure: line 19951: AM_ICONV: command not found
checking libintl.h usability... yes
checking libintl.h presence... yes
checking for libintl.h... yes
./configure: line 20104: syntax error near unexpected token `no-libtool'
./configure: line 20104: `AM_GNU_GETTEXT(no-libtool)'

On both FC and SuSE.
