You can backup either calendar or phonebook with gnokii. Use:
gnokii --getphonebook ...
or
gnokii --getcalnote ...
for this.

If Evolution can read vCal format files and export it, you can do
import/export them from gnokii to Evolution and the opposite way as well.
There's no synchronization engine in gnokii though (you will end with
duplicated entries doing the synchronization straightforward).
