If your setup is working properly you can lower the initlength value
in your gnokiirc. initlength = 1 can work. It will lower the
initialization time.

Yes. smsd initializes the connection only on startup and it will maintain
a permanent connection to your phone.

smsd doesn't handle nor voice nor data calls. If you mean sms, the
answer is yes. smsd can handle incoming and outgoing smses in parallel.
The number of the outgoing smses per minute higly depends on your
provider. The sms center of your provider has to acknowledge the
previous sms before your phone can send a new one.
