yes

Using this, the 1st attempt to use gnokii worked fine. However, once the
connection breaks down, it's almost impossible to re-start without reboot of
the box. Again the error is
connect: No route to host
Couldn't open PHONET device: No route to host
connect: No route to host
Couldn't open PHONET device: No route to host
...
I already suspected a problem in the kernel and will try version 2.4.20
(instead of 2.4.19). But still, behaviour seems strange.
Is it possible that the device started at a speed to low - i.e. faster speed
expected by IR ? Initialization is reported in messages as
Jan 21 13:18:04 p1312730 irattach: executing: '/sbin/modprobe irda0'
Jan 21 13:18:04 p1312730 kernel: irda_init()

Jan 21 13:18:04 p1312730 kernel: IrDA: Registered device irda0
Jan 21 13:18:04 p1312730 kernel: nsc-ircc, Using dongle: IBM31T1100 or Temic
TFDS6000/TFDS6500
Jan 21 13:18:04 p1312730 irattach: executing: 'echo 1 >
/proc/sys/net/irda/discovery'
Jan 21 13:18:04 p1312730 irattach: Starting device irda0
Jan 21 13:18:04 p1312730 kernel: irlap_change_speed(), setting speed to 9600

I have no location to configure IR but /etc/modules.conf - /etc/irda doesn't
exist and I do not know which files are expected therein and with which
contents.
