Follow-up Comment #2:

Fedora and Debian libcurl packages don't contain libcurl.so, but their
development packages do. So if you have libcurl.so but no curl.h something
funny is going on. I suspect this doesn't affect anybody except reporter, so
it's probably not worth spending time on.
